Yerevan State Medical University is enlisted with the World Health Organization ( WHO ) and is recognized by MCI (Medical Council of India), Act of 1956 (Gazette of India, Part II, Sec. 1, Extra, S. No. 83, dt. 31.12.1956), GMC (General Medical Council) of U.K.
The medium of instruction is English .
Total duration of the Graduate Course is 6 years .
Annual tuition fee is USD 3000 . First year fee is to be paid in Armenia in the form of demand draft in favor of the University.
The annual hostel fee is USD 500.
Academic session commences from 10 th September .
Around 650 Indian students are currently pursuing their graduate and post-graduate studies. Regular Indian batches since 1987 .
Separate hostel wings for boys and girls.
International hostel is centrally heated and is provided with basic amenities. The hostel complex has a gymnasium, reading room, shop, buffet and mess .
Presently the University provides a complimentary breakfast to those staying in the hostel complex.
Electricity bill to be shared amongst the students.
Average personal expenditure would be USD 1200-1500 per year for food, local transportation, laundry and other expenses.
Indian mess and Indian restaurants are available in Yerevan .
All the students must have Medical Insurance during the whole period of study.
Vice-President of India Hon'ble Bhairon Singh Shekhawat was awarded Honorary Title of Doctor of Philosophy of YSMU when he visited Armenia in October 2005 during the 75th anniversary celebrations of the university (see Recommendations).
YSMU has recently introduced 'Guest Lectureship Program' inviting eminent doctors through the Ministry of Health from AIIMS, Maulana Azad Medical College , Safdarjung Hospital , Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital , Lady Hardinge Medical College ( Delhi ), JIPMER ( Pondicherry ), KGMC ( Lucknow ), LLRM Medical College ( Meerut ), Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College ( Indore ) and other reputed medical colleges and hospitals.
Many graduates are working successfully in various prestigious hospitals in India , UK , USA and European countries. Only in California , USA more than 500 university graduates carry out practical work.
Special courses of Emergency Medical services by Boston University School of Medicine, USA.
After completion of 2nd year of medical school, excellent students can participate in medical scientific work of Scientific Research Center at YSMU.
The student has an opportunity to do Fellowship course in Radiology Department at the affiliated centre of Thomas Jefferson University , Philadelphia , USA at YSMU.
After submission of all the required documents, the prospective student must pass the qualifying test conducted by the University officials in New Delhi . Admission letter would be issued on the same day after successfully passing the test.
The University has summer & winter sport camps and resorts in different parts of Armenia . Special non-expensive rates are available for foreign students.
As of March 15, 2002, according to new "The Indian Medical Council (Amendment) Act, 2001", all students willing to obtain a medical degree from foreign country must obtain an 'Eligibility Certificate' from the Medical Council of India, Delhi. Download eligibility form: www.mciindia.org
According to "Indian Medical Council (Amendment) Act, 2001" all the Indian foreign medical graduates have to qualify the FMGE 'Screening Test' conducted by National Board of Examinations, New Delhi.
The last Indian batch of YSMU has given 97% as passing result of the Screening Test.
The University will arrange visa to the Republic of Armenia .
There are several routes to reach Yerevan , Armenia (via Moscow , Vienna , Dubai , Sharjah and Zurich ).
The students would be received by the officials at the airport upon their arrival at Yerevan .
'Student Residency Card' would be arranged by the University after student's arrival at Armenia .
Summer vacations are of 8 to 10 weeks in July and August
M.D. 'Physician' degree would be awarded upon successful completion of the course.
